Frequently Asked Questions
When does soccer start, and who will contact me?
Soccer will begin in May, the for the Micro/Mini division the first game is usually held on the Monday following the Victoria Day weekend. The exact date of your first practice or game will depend on your age group, and your coaches preference. You will be contacted by your coach usually between the 2nd and 3rd week of May, the coach will tell you the time and place for your team meeting and you should receive information on practices and games at this meeting.
What night will my games be played?
YOUTHS: Your game night or schedule will not be determined until registration by all clubs within the HDSL are completed, and field and referee availability has been determined.
MICRO/MINIS: Players will usually have games on a consistent day and time, but all age groups may experience some change throughout the season.
Tues: U7 & U8
What are bond hours?
Every club or organization has a number of tasks that must be completed in order to function effectively. Some clubs will pay people to perform these tasks, others will use a combination of paid and volunteer staff.
Wasaga Soccer is run 100% by volunteers which helps us maintain lower registration costs and family involvement. Bond hours essentially mean that each family must complete:
Micro/Mini Players – ages 4-10 – 5 hours of volunteer time.
Youth Players age 11-14 – 3 hours of volunteer time.
Youth Players ages 15-18 – 2 hours of volunteer time.
This requirement is a total per family not per registered player, families with more than one registered player are required to complete 5 full bond hours. At the start of the season you will work out with your coach what tasks are available to complete your bond hours. Common tasks include coaching, working lines, a team manager, a bond hour rep, first aid, team snack, or even assisting with our picnic our equipment or registration. After you have completed your hours your Bond check will be destroyed. If you do not complete your hours your check will be cashed September 15th.
What does my registration fee cover?
Your registration includes league registration, complete team uniforms (socks, shorts and jersey), team and individual photos, insurance, year end picnic and a tournament.
For ages 4-10 there will be an in house tournament. The Wasaga Beach Soccer Club will pay the cost for each Youth team to enter ONE away tournament.
What do I need to supply for my child to play soccer?
Shin pads are mandatory and soccer cleats are recommended.
You should also always provide a drink for your child at both games and practices.
How much travel is involved in the travel league?
A season is made up of about 15 games. Half of these games will be played at home. Participating clubs can include as an example Cookstown, Barrie, Innisfil, Alliston, Orillia and Bracebridge. Not all teams travel to the same centres.
Can I request that my child be on the same team as his/her friend?
Please be advised that no requests will be accepted this season, unless there are extenuating circumstances which will be reviewed by the Board. We try very hard to balance teams based on players abilities. It is very likely you will know someone on the team. As the same age divisions play on the same night, the issue of transportation is alleviated.
If I missed all registration dates how can I register my child?
You can go to our contact page and email the appropriate registrar.
Can my child play if he/she is only 3 years of age?
Yes, if your child turns 4 years of age by the end of the current year of play they may play on the micros. If you child is not 4 years of age during current year of play they will have to wait another year. There is no exception to this rule.
No refund unless due to injury. A doctor’s certificate is required. The refund will be pro-rated minus applicable registration costs. Should there not be enough players to form a team, space-permitting players may be moved up to another age group. Should there not be any availability in the higher age group a full refund will be issued.
What age division will my child play?
We will attempt to place your child in the age appropriate group, however depending on registration numbers, age groups may be combined.
